Description:
On Sunday 17th September 1944, the skies over the East Midlands and southern England saw the greatest air armada ever wing its way to Holland. Operation Market Garden had commenced with over two thousand troop carrying aircraft leaving 24 different airfields bound for Arnhem and Nijmegen.
RAF Spanhoe played its part in this major attack against the German forces, sending men from 315th Troop Carrier Group in C47s, carrying paratroopers of 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
Sixty four years later and Spanhoe Airfield again fills with the sights and sounds of WWII as veterans from around the globe return to their wartime home and remember those who were lost during the great war. Re-enactors commemorate their great acts with battle scenarios and artillery demonstrations, whilst the skies fill with WWII and modern day aircraft.
Recorded at Spanhoe Airfield in Northamptonshire, and featuring bonus material filmed by Captain Wayne Capps of 315th Airlift Wing.
