Moving the Earth (DVD 004)

Big earth moving equipment has a fascination that few other machines can equal, whether they are bulldozers, excavators, scraper buckets, rippers or ploughs. One of the most important events in the vintage earth moving world is Andrew Beaulah's 'Vintage Working Day', held near his home in Yorkshire. When this event was combined with 'Caterpillars at Work', it offered an unequalled selection of working crawler machines ever to be assembled and capuired on video.

The main activity was the clearing and levelling of a hillside, using a range of bulldozers and heavy tractors hauling boz scrapers. In addition three excavators using buckets and a drag line, dug pits and trenches on an adjacent site, while a variety of crawler tractors with ploughs, discs, and cultivators worked on a stubble field. Among the working machines featured is an unusual Russian Belarus machine and two British-made Vickers, all of which were developed in post war tank factories. A rare Fowler Challenger Mark I, a Priestman excavator rescued from a river barge, and massive Caterpillar D8 and Challenger III bulldozers are all shown hard at work.
